Crochet Shawl with Video Tutorial

Crochet Shawl

Hook 4.5mm. US

Yarn 8 ply. US 4 ply
Tension not required

US terms used throughout pattern
St’s used:
Ch= chain
Trbl=treble crochet
Sk= skip

Special instructions: Pattern consists of a ch 5(=first trbl and ch 1), side trbl’s= (3 trbl ch 1 into a ch 1 space), center =(3trbl ch 2 3 trbl, ch 1, into the center ch 2 space). There will be 1 center and the side trbl’s will increase in each row.

Give your shawl a bit of a pull at the end of each row to keep it straight.


Begin: ch 5, join with sl st to first ch to form a ring

Row 1: ch 5 (=first trbl and ch 1), work 3 trbl’s into the ring, ch 2, work 3 trbl’s into the ring, ch 1, work 1 trbl into ring, ch 5 (=first trbl and ch 1 of the beginning of the next and each row), turn

Row 2: (side) work 3 trbl’s into the ch 1 space, ch 1, (center), work (3 trbl, ch 2, 3 trbl, ch 1) into the ch 2 space, sk 3 trbl, (side) work (3 trbl, ch 1,1 trbl) into the ch 1 space, ch 5, turn

Row 3: work 3 trbl, ch 1, into each ch 1 spaces, work (3 trbl, ch 2, 3 trbl, ch 1) into the ch 2 space, work 3 trbl, ch 1, into each ch 1 spaces, working 1 more trbl into the last ch 1 space of the row, ch 5, turn
(ROW CHECK, ch5, 2x3trbl ch1, (1 x 3 trbl, ch 2, 3 trbl, ch 1), (2x3trbl ch1), (1xtrbl)


Row 4: work 3 trbl, ch 1, into each ch 1 spaces, work (3 trbl, ch 2, 3 trbl, ch 1) into the ch 2 space, work 3 trbl, ch 1, into each ch 1 spaces, working 1 more trbl into the last ch 1 space of the row, ch 5, turn

Repeat row 4 until you have the length desired for your shawl, finish off weave in ends.

this is great thank you, i have always wanted to make a shawl and yours has been the best instructions i have found :)

if i wanted to incorporate sections of hdc how many chains would i need in the turning chain?

i have tried 3 times and it continues to curl and looks round not pointy,using a size 9 hook ,5.50 and red heart soft yarn.help....
